What Is IV Dental Sedation?

IV dental sedation (intravenous sedation) is a form of conscious sedation administered directly into the bloodstream. It works quickly to ease anxiety and discomfort, helping you remain relaxed, often without memory of the procedure, while remaining responsive to light stimuli.

Unlike other options like nitrous oxide or oral sedation, IV sedation offers precise dosage control and rapid effect, making it ideal for longer or more complex treatments like extractions, or for individuals with significant dental anxiety, sensitive gag reflexes, or difficulty sitting still.

How IV Dental Sedation Works

1. Consultation & Preparation
During your consultation, we’ll gather your medical history and any medications you take. The dentist will give you clear instructions about eating, drinking, and taking your medication on the day.

2. Arrival & Onset
At your appointment, sedation medication is administered via a vein in the arm. You’ll feel tranquil almost immediately, allowing you to stay calm and comfortable even during longer procedures.

3. Treatment & Monitoring
You won’t feel pain during the procedure, but you’ll still be monitored closely the entire time to ensure you’re safe and comfortable. The dosage is carefully managed to maintain your comfort and safety.

4. Recovery

It’s important to rest for the remainder of the day and follow any aftercare instructions. Aftercare instructions will be provided, typically including rest, soft foods, pain relief if needed, and maintaining mouth cleanliness without excessive rinsing.

IV Sedation costs €250. Please note that sedation is not covered under medical card.
