Bone Grafting
If you’ve been told you don’t have enough bone in your jaw to support a dental implant, or you’re concerned about the impact of missing teeth on your facial shape and oral health, bone grafting may be the solution. At The Dental Suite, we specialise in bone grafting alongside advanced implant treatments to restore function, aesthetics, and confidence.
Why Bone Grafting Matters
When a tooth is lost or extracted, the surrounding jawbone begins to shrink through a process called resorption. Over time, this can result in:

-
Insufficient bone volume or density to place an implant safely.
-
Changes in the facial profile: cheeks or lips may appear hollow, sunken, or aged. Bone grafting regenerates your missing bone, building up the strength and density of your jaw, and the treatment has an added benefit of taking years off your appearance.
-
Increased risk of implant failure if there isn’t a secure bone foundation.
We recognise that bone grafting is not just a preparatory step for dental implants, it’s a meaningful treatment to restore your oral health and maintain your facial structure.

Our Approach to Bone Grafting at The Dental Suite
Across The Dental Suite clinics, we take a personalised and evidence-based approach to bone grafting. Your journey begins with a detailed consultation and comprehensive 3D imaging to assess the quantity and quality of your jawbone. This allows us to determine whether grafting is required before proceeding with implant treatment.

We then create a bespoke treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, making sure the most suitable grafting technique is chosen for your specific case. Throughout the process, we prioritise open communication and patient education, explaining each step in clear, straightforward terms. Our clinicians are skilled in both straightforward and complex grafting procedures, so whether you require a minor bone enhancement or a more advanced bone augmentation, you can feel confident that you are in safe hands.
What Exactly is Bone Grafting?
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure where bone (or bone-substitute material) is placed into a jaw area where bone volume has been lost or is insufficient. Over time, this material allows new bone to grow and integrate, building a stable foundation for dental implants or preserving your jaw shape.

If there has been a significant loss of bone, this could mean that there may not be enough bone to support a dental implant. In these cases, we would need to perform a bone grafting procedure.
Common Types of Bone Grafts
Typical grafting options include:

-
Socket grafting (ridge preservation): Immediately after tooth extraction to preserve bone.
-
Ridge augmentation: To rebuild width or height of the jaw ridge.
-
Sinus lift (sinus augmentation): To raise the sinus floor and add bone in the upper back jaw—important for implants in that area.
-
Block grafts or major grafts: Larger surgeries for more severe bone loss, sometimes involving donor bone.
Who Needs Bone Grafting?
You may be advised to undergo bone grafting if you:

-
Have lost one or more teeth some time ago, and the bone has resorbed.
-
Are wearing a denture and are experiencing bone shrinkage or jaw collapse.
-
Have been told you don’t have enough bone to place an implant.
-
Are considering an implant treatment, and the scan shows insufficient bone height or width.
-
Have a sinus cavity that has expanded or moved into the former tooth area (common in the upper back jaw).

What to Expect from the Procedure
-
Initial consultation & imaging – We will assess your jawbone, gum health, and overall suitability.
-
Treatment planning – The number, type, and timing of grafting will be explained in clear terms.
-

Implant placement (if applicable) – Once sufficient bone is present, we proceed with your implant treatment.
